Our History

Established by Master Cheng Yen in 1966, Tzu Chi Foundation embodies:

Kindness, Compassion, Joy, & Selfless Giving

With principles of sincerity, truth, faith and honesty, the organization, guided by Buddhist teachings, focuses on charity missions. Over 50 years, it has grown globally with diverse members of various socio-economic economic backgrounds, fostering a symbiotic relationship between the financially fortunate and those in need. Tzu Chi’s charitable footprint spans health, education, humanistic (Ren Wen) culture, disaster relief, bone marrow initiatives, environmental activities, and community assistance. Transcending borders, Tzu Chi has become a beacon of global compassion.

With the principle of “To save the world through compassion,” Tzu Chi Foundation extended its presence in Indonesia through Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation in 1994. Years of dedicated charitable endeavours in Indonesia Tzu Chi established itself as a benevolent and trustworthy institute; expanding its repertoire of good works into education and established Sekolah Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi Cengkareng in 2003. In 2011, Tzu Chi School – PIK, SPK (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama) was founded and continues to gain traction and reputation as an excellent educator.

Hello and welcome to Tzu Chi School! I am glad you have taken the time to explore our mission and discover what makes our Early Childhood through Primary School program so unique.

To understand Tzu Chi School, we must start with our purpose. Our school is a realization of one of the four core missions of the Tzu Chi Foundation: Education. Our founder, Master Cheng Yen, teaches that the highest purpose of education is to “purify the human heart.”

In today’s world, it’s easy for our hearts to become distracted and lose focus. Our educational mission is a dedicated effort, a commitment by all stakeholders, to cultivate clarity and compassion in our students. We believe a pure heart provides a strong foundation for learning, which in turn helps students achieve academic excellence. Most importantly, it ensures that all the greatness they achieve will be used to create a positive impact on society.

We are deeply thankful for the trust the community places in Tzu Chi School. We are committed to delivering a truly balanced, quality education that integrates academic rigor with essential moral character education, offering a strong foundation in 3 languages: Bahasa Indonesia, English and Mandarin to prepare our students as competent global citizens.

Our learning always goes beyond the classroom emphasizing Tzu Chi Humanistic Culture through daily lessons on etiquette, respect, and mindfulness. We ensure students engage in diverse activities—from music and sports to service learning—to mold them into the best version of themselves. By taking students into the community through service learning, we aim to teach not just knowledge, but also compassion and wisdom.

感恩 (with gratitude) and we look forward to welcoming you to be part of the Tzu Chi family.
